About Jon Lundberg Sr.
Jon grew up in East Lansing, Mich. the area by Michigan State University His family had a family business Lundberg Screw Products Company. The company was a Detroit-based manufacturer of screws, bolts, and other fasteners. The company supplied many of the auto plants in Detroit, as well as other businesses.
Jon Lundberg Sr. is the voice of Detroit Dragway, and has been for over 25 years. He’s announced at some of the biggest events in drag racing, including the NHRA U.S. Nationals and the IHRA World Finals. Jon’s unique style and passion for the sport have made him one of the most recognizable announcers in the business.
Jon loved hot rods & hot rodding. Jon got his start in drag racing as a track announcer at Detroit Dragway in the early 1960s. He quickly became known for his enthusiastic announcing style and knowledge of the sport. Jon was hired to be the voice of the NHRA U.S. Nationals, one of drag racing’s most prestigious events.

When you think of old school drag racing, one of the first things that comes to mind is the sound of Jon Lundberg’s voice booming over the PA system. For years, Jon was the voice of Detroit Dragway, one of the most famous drag strips in the country. If you ever went to a Michigan drag strip in the 60’s you probably heard Jon announcing everything from funny cars to super stock. John was the voice of drag racing.
Jon’s voice was so distinctive that it became synonymous with drag racing itself. For many people, Jon was the face (and voice) of the sport. He was known for his enthusiastic announcing style and his love of the sport. He announced at many drag strips around the U.S. along with NHRA National events along with other major events. Jon is a legend in the world of drag racing announcing. A few years ago Jon was at the Detroit Dragway Reunion at Milan Dragway.
Michigan Motor Sports Hall Of Fame:
Jon Lundberg Sr., was inducted into the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. Jon was a pioneer in the world of drag racing announcing, and his unique style and passion for the sport made him one of the most recognizable announcers in the business. Jon is a large part of drag racing history.
