Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick
Another one of the famous & top drag racers that raced at Detroit Dragway® was, Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick.
Like so many of the famous drag racers of the 60′ & 70’s there much written about Arnie Beswick, so we have posted a few of the best articles we found. We are proud to say that Arnie raced at Detroit Dragway, and we are glad he did.
At the height of drag racing in the 60’s & 70’s Detroit Dragway was one of the drag strips all the top drag racers wanted to race at. Detroit Dragway held it’s last race in 1997, but we are keeping it’s memory alive. Share your stories with us.
I was lucky enough to see Arnie race in the Late 60′ and again a few years ago at Milian Dragway’s Detroit Dragway Reunion. This time I was able to get photos along with a couple videos of him. I’ll post some nice photos of the inside of Arnie’s hot rod soon.
Remember all the GTO’s back then with the tiger or tiger tail in the back window ledge? I had one in my 65 GTO.

“Born into a farming family in 1930, Arnie and his parents ran a 160-acre spread with 1,000 chickens, 300 hogs, hundreds of feeder cattle, and many acres of corn. But when not planting (April through May) or harvesting (October and November), Beswick traded tractors for traction as one of drag racing’s most popular personalities”.

Here is a nice article from Pontiac Preservation Association: “Looking back at his successful racing career and countless wins, Beswick certainly has nothing to prove, he has literally “done it all,” from winning NHRA national events, to surviving horrendous crashes. If it’s a Pontiac, he’s driven it, from factory stockers to supercharged funnycars.”
