Stone Woods and Cook Raced At Detroit Dragway
Stone Woods and Cook were professional drag racers who raced in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). They were best known for their “Woods & Cook” branded race cars, which were some of the most successful and iconic drag racing cars of all time.
Both Stone and Cook began their careers racing in the early 1950s, and they quickly became two of the most successful drag racers in the country. They would go on to dominate the sport throughout the 1960s, winning a combined total of nine NHRA national championships.
Although they retired from racing in the early 1970s, their legacy continues to live on through their iconic race cars. Today, Stone Woods and Cook are considered to be two of the most important figures in the history of drag racing.
At the height of drag racing in the 60’s & 70’s Detroit Dragway was one of the drag strips all the top drag racers wanted to race at. Detroit Dragway held it’s last race in 1997, but we are keeping it’s memory alive. Share your stories with us.
Stone Woods and Cook racing at Detroit Dragway
Stone Woods and Cook were two of the most successful drag racers of their era. They raced at Detroit Dragway, one of the premier drag racing venues in the country.
Stone Woods was a pioneer in the sport of drag racing. He was one of the first to use a supercharger on his car, which helped him to win many races. He also raced at Detroit Dragway, where he won several races.
Cook was another successful drag racer. He also raced at Detroit Dragway, and he won many races there as well. He was known for his aggressive driving style, which often resulted in him crashing his car. However, he always managed to finish the race, and he often won.
Both Stone Woods and Cook were very successful at Detroit Dragway, and they both had a lot of success in the sport of drag racing.

The Gasser
Stone-Woods-Cook 1941 Willys gasser was very successful in competition, winning numerous races and setting multiple records. Stone-Woods-Cook is considered to be one of the most successful drag racing teams of all time.
The Funny Car
Stone Woods and Cook were two of the most successful drag racers of their time. They also raced at Detroit Dragway in the Funny Car class.
Stone & Woods Jr. were the first African American to win a national event in a Funny Car. They did it in 1966, when they won the Super Stock eliminator at the United States Nationals.
Both men were pioneers in the sport of drag racing. They paved the way for other African American racers to follow in their footsteps.
Today, the Stone Woods Cook name is still racing. The team currently races in the NHRA Heritage Series.
