We all know the big names that raced at the Double D, but like every strip out there it’s the man & woman weekend racers that keep the tracks open. The same was for Detroit Dragway. One of the people that raced at DD was Tino Franciosi.
I raced at Detroit Dragway in 67, 68 and 69.
In 67 I raced the Camaro in stock form. Stock 350 295 hp. ran 14.09 at 102.
68 and 69 the Whine-Maker was introduced. 427 L88, rock crusher Muncie, 4.56 gear.
The car ran 11.00 at 127. I ran against the likes of Lil Kim, Jim McNamara (can’t remember for sure) blue Nova called the Hustler.
We want to acknowledge the racers, & staff that made this track what it was. One of the top drag strips in the nation.
Thank you for being part of this great track. Although Detroit Dragway is gone, it is not forgotten.
