Tom Bonner Worked At Detroit Dragway

Gil Kohn hired me as a track photographer in 1975. I continued that job until 1984. I got to know many of the other employees because I was there almost any time the strip was open unless I was covering a major event somewhere. A great bunch of people. Most Saturday nights a group of us (Including manager John Broaden)  would head over to Denny’s after the race. We would bench-race over a late-night breakfast.

I wrote all of the track’s press releases and race reports for Drag News. Once the track returned to NHRA, I submitted weekly reports to National Dragster as well.  I became good friends with most of the racers. I wish I could go back in time and see them all again.
